"Let The Wind Chase You"

If you've never experienced the 365 Days of Country Music, you've already let life pass you by and unfortunately this blog may be your last bit of hope for experiencing music.  That blog changed my life.  Thanks to the brilliance of Meesa Hayes, who has the most exquisite musical taste in all of life, I have been exposed to the best of the best.  So much so that I was inspired to start this blog.  Although I have been a lifelong Trisha Yearwood fan, somehow, some way, I have never heard this song until I found her amazing blog.  This song has made me want to be a songwriter that much more.  The brilliance in this song makes my heart race, it's just that good.

I think the hardest decision someone will ever make is the war between holding on and letting go.  That moment of realization that you just can't try any more has to be the biggest disappointment but also the biggest relief; and that is exactly what I feel when I hear this song.  I feel like I'm an emotional mess after this song and that's why I love it.  Like blowing a dandelion into the wind, she just lets him go in this song.  Ahh close your eyes and listen to your heart break.

FM Radio:
Singer: Trisha Yearwood/Keith Urban
Songwriters: Karyn Rochelle, Sally Barris
Song: "Let The Wind Chase You"

Like a wildwood flower
Doesn’t have to reach for the sun
And when it needs a drop of water
It doesn’t have to ask the rain to come

I don’t wanna work for your love
I don’t wanna try to be
Something that you’re looking for
You’re never gonna find in me

So let the wind chase you
I can’t do it anymore
Let the road run after you
Like I always did before
Let the stars catch your eye
‘Cause I’ve tried and tried and tried
And I won’t do
So let the wind chase you

No one says a diamond ain’t precious
Just because it hasn’t yet been found
And no one blames the moon for not shining
Just because it’s hidden by a cloud

I don’t wanna blame myself
Thinking that I’m not enough
And wonder what’s wrong with me
Because I couldn’t win your love

So let the wind chase you
I can’t do it anymore
Let the road run after you
Like I always did before
Let the stars catch your eye
‘Cause I’ve tried and tried and tried
And I won’t do
So let the wind chase you

I don’t wanna work for your love
I don’t wanna try to be
Something that you’re looking for
You’re never gonna find in me

So let the wind chase you
I can’t do it anymore
Let the road run after you
Like I always did before
Let the stars catch your eye
‘Cause I’ve tried and tried and tried
And I won’t do
So let the wind chase you, mmhmm
Let the wind (let the wind)
Chase you

"Break Me Down"

This song says it like no other.  The emotions in these lyrics seem raw, yet buried right under the surface.  Put yourself in these shoes...ahh.

FM Radio:
Singer: Miranda Lambert, Travis Howard
Songwriters: "Break Me Down"
Song: "Break Me Down"

Sweet like a kiss sharp like a razor blade

I find you when I' m close to the bottom
You cant appreciate the time it takes
To kick a love I always knew was kind of wrong
And as I'm putting out the flame
Somebody brings up you name

Oh oh oh oh
Baby baby baby bring me down
I want to be right where you are
Baby baby baby bring me down
You can look me in the eye and break my heart
Break my heart

Six AM unruffled pillow
Laughs out loud at my trusting heart
It's like I didn't see the penny
I missed the fountain by a couple yards
If you would only stay gone
Maybe I could move on

Oh oh oh oh
Baby baby baby bring me down
I want to be right where you are
Baby baby baby bring me down
You can look me in the eye and break my heart
Break my heart

OH! Baby baby baby bring me down
I want to be right where you are
Baby baby baby bring me down
You can look me in the eye and break my heart
Break my heart

Baby baby baby bring me down
I want to be right where you are
Baby baby baby bring me down
You can look me in the eye and break my heart
Break my heart

Bring me down...

"What About Georgia"

I feel like this song is my own secret.  I feel like the only one who has ever heard this song?!  I freaking LOVE it!  I became obsessed with this song on her album, learned to play it on guitar, performed it...the whole nine yards.  I have one complaint, that incredible drum thing thats the first 5 seconds needs to be the first two lines of the verse.  Like why would some boy run off from her?  Apparently so she could go on to write songs like this!  Oh, and she did it all by herself.

FM Radio:
Singer: Miranda Lambert
Songwriters: Miranda Lambert
Song: "What About Georgia"

You draw it out like a highway
With every word you'd say
Excuses for the answers that you lack
Your mama’s still the steady ground
you walk on every day
And your daddy’s still the monkey on your back
Did you find all you thought you’d find out in the wild, wild west
You took a little piece of home and you threw away the rest

You say you’re livin’ on the edge
and I think you’re hangin’ from a ledge
Too scared to hold the hand
that wants to help you up
Are you the man you thought you’d be
by the time that you turned 33?
Are you still a bullet in your daddy’s gun?
Don’t forget boy you’re your mama’s only son
She’s at home and she’s been prayin' for ya
So what about Georgia?

I saw your sister yesterday
Austin’s five and on his way
Looking for some shoes that he can fill
He said that he’d be just like you
the coolest guy he ever knew
And he’d find you when
he lost his training wheels
I looked in his big blue eyes
and I saw you again
He’s hungry for a life he ain't ready to begin

You say you’re livin’ on the edge
And I think you’re hangin’ from a ledge
Too scared to hold the hand
That wants to help you up
Are you the man you thought you’d be
By the time that you turned 33?
Are you still a bullet in your daddy’s gun?
Don’t forget boy you’re your mama’s only son
She’s at home and she’s been prayin' for ya
So what about Georgia?

I guess you didn’t realize it’d take you quite this long
To figure out that being free is right where you belong

You say you’re livin’ on the edge
And I think you’re hangin’ from a ledge
Too scared to hold the hand
That wants to help you up
HEY! Are you the man you thought you’d be
by the time that you turned 33?
Are you still a bullet in your daddy’s gun?
Don’t forget boy you’re your mama’s only son
She’s at home and she’s been prayin' for ya
So what about Georgia?

What about Georgia? yeah
What about Georgia Georgia? Yeah
What about Georgia?

"Love Is Looking For You"

Kerosene just has to be the most underrated Miranda Lambert work out there!  I got this CD for Christmas and I remember not being able to turn it off.  Every song could've been a single.  I almost wish she would go back to songs like this instead of tough woman, uptempo songs.  Songs like this are her strength.

FM Radio:
Singer: Miranda Lambert
Songwriter: Miranda Lambert
Song: "Love Is Looking For You"

Maybe you're just jaded from some nobody's unforgotten words
Maybe you're just faded, a little gray from every time that you've been hurt
So you're lookin for your skin that you never did fit in
You can't hide when you're turned inside out
Love is looking for you now

Maybe you been burnin' but you can't blow out a flame that you can't find
Maybe you've been thirsty but the rain just aint enough when you're this dry
So you're runnin' from the water and the fire's getting hotter
I think you better find some lever ground
Love is lookin' for you now
Love is lookin' for you now

Maybe you been wearing the shoes that someone else is wearing now
Maybe you've been swearing forever might have already run out
You can't love yourself at the expense of someone else
You can't hide a liar from the truth
Love is lookin' for you
Love is lookin' for you

I've been looking for you
Baby I've been lookin.....
I've been looking for you

"Whiskey Lullaby"

If I could tell you how inspired I get by words, you'd think I was crazy.  But, if you don't feel something after hearing these songs that I write about, then I can assume that you don't have a beating heart.

She put him out like the burning end of a midnight cigarette

Like come on...They don't teach this in English class kids.  Only the godfather of songwriting, Bill Anderson could write a hallmark like this gem.  The instrumentation with this haunting melody is chill-bounding; add in these clever, handcrafted like they wrote this song over years, lyrics, and you have a life changer.  They could probably rerelease this song and it would still go to #1...its just that good.  Oh PLUS this music video...I'm gone.

FM Radio:
Singer: Brad Paisley & Allison Krauss
Songwriters: Bill Anderson, Jon Randall
Song: "Whiskey Lullaby"

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said, 'I'll love her till I die.'
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night

She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

"Wrong Again"

This song made me fall in love with music, let alone country music.  I was obsessed with Martina McBride, and still am.  She needs to record more songs like this.  Just the build of this songs gives me chills.  Don't you just love how you think everything is perfect and suddenly when it all goes wrong you realize it was wrong from the start.  This is amazing.  Let it take you back to when big ballads dominated radio and Martina McBride won every Female Vocalist of the Year award.

FM Radio:
Singer: Martina McBride
Songwriters: Tommy Lee James, Cynthia Wells
Song: "Wrong Again"

From the day we met
You made me forget
All my fears
Knew just what to say
And you kissed away
All my tears

I knew this time I had finally found
Someone to build my life around
Who'd be a lover and a friend
After all my heart had put me through
I knew that it was safe with you
And what we had would never end
Wrong again

Everybody swore
They'd seen this before
We'd be fine
And you'd come to see that you still loved me
In good time

And they said there's nothing you can do
It's something that he's going through
It happens to a lot of men
And I told myself that they were right
That you'd wake up and see the light
And I just had to wait 'til then
Wrong again

And it seemed to me the pain would last
My chance for happiness had passed
And nothing waited 'round the bend
I was sure I'd never find someone
To heal the damage you had done
And my poor heart would never mend
Wrong again
Wrong again

"A Little Past Little Rock"

Headlights on a highway & a broken heart = country music.

FM Radio:
Singer: Lee Ann Womack
Songwriters: Tony Lane, Brett Jones, Jess Brown
Song: "A Little Past Little Rock"

I had to leave my life in Dallas
That town will always be you
In every crowd, on every corner
In every face I'd see you
So with nothin' more than a tank of gas
I drove away without lookin' back
And I guess that's how I got where I am
And goin' anywhere as fast as I can

And I'm a little past Little Rock
Further down the line
Too soon to know what's up ahead
Too late to change my mind
I gotta keep my heart out of this and both hands on the wheel
I'm learnin' more with every mile just how leavin' feels
It's a lonely stretch of blacktop out into the blue
Don't know where I'll go or what I'll do
I'm a little past Little Rock
But a long way from over you

These headlights on the highway
Disappear into the dark
And if I could have my way
I'd go back to where you are
Oh, but I can't turn this thing around
And nothing short of breaking down
Is gonna get me off this road I'm on
Oh, and I'm still a far cry from gone

And I'm a little past Little Rock
Further down the line
Too soon to know what's up ahead
Too late to change my mind
I gotta keep my heart out of this and both hands on the wheel
I'm learnin' more with every mile just how leavin' feels
It's a lonely stretch of blacktop out into the blue
Don't know where I'll go or what I'll do
I'm a little past Little Rock
But a long way from over you

"19 & Crazy"

The craziest thing I have ever done is dream too big.
Besides having crazy dreams and doing this blog, I don't get much wilder.  My mother is grateful that I somehow live through songs.  I love this song.  I know nothing about these singers except that they sound amazing together and kind of reminiscent of Katrina Elam.  Chase your dreams people.

FM Radio:
Singers: Bomshel
Songwriters: Kristy Osmunso, Josh Kear, Kelley Shepard, Mark Irwin
Song: "19 & Crazy"

This belly button dangle
Will probably be just one of those things
I won't be showing off too often at 65
This butterfly tattoo
Might be somethin' I tell my kids not to do
Spring break shouldn't last the rest of your life

There were things I should not have of done
Then again, well I sure had fun

Bein' free, bein' wild, bein' bulletproof
Back then we were rebels without a clue
Nothin' in the world that we wouldn't do
Woah oh oh oh oh
Didn't give a damn what people say
We were doin' it, doin' it our way
I wish that we could always stay
19 and crazy

I fall in love with those guys
That keep my dad awake at night
Runnin' his knife across a wet stone
Maybe he hates their long hair
The tattoos or the chains that they all wear
Mostly he hates your black camero

We were young, so in love
And we still haven't grown up

Bein' free, bein' wild, bein' bulletproof
Back then we were rebels without a clue
Nothin' in the world that we wouldn't do
Woah oh oh oh oh
Didn't give a damn what people say
We were doin' it, doin' it our way
I wish we could always stay
19 and crazy

Oh the only things that I regret are things that we didn't do
Those crazy days that I have left
Have led me here to you

Bein' free, bein' wild, bein' bulletproof
Right now we're rebels without a clue
Nothin' in the world that we can't do
Woah oh oh oh oh
Don't give a damn what people say
Cause we're doin' it, doin' it our way
I know that we will always stay
19 and crazy

Promise me we will always stay
19 and crazy

"What If You Stay"

My signature writing style should just be titled: "Red dress, hardwood floors, Am7."  Really, I should just say emotional drama.  I aim for the soap opera dramatic, front porch view of a breakup.  I. Love. It.  Yes, I already know I am crazy, but think of how many great titles, scenarios, dialoges, etc., can be written with that in mind.  Ahh, I wanna grab my guitar as I write this.  I discovered Chuck Wicks on that short lived reality show called NASHVILLE.  Yes, it was not your typical E! reality show, but I loved every second of it.  Well, needless to say, it made me run out and obsess over him and his CD for a few months, and after six years or so of owning it, this is the only song I really loved.  Just close your eyes and feel the drama...ahh.

FM Radio:
Singer: Chuck Wicks
Songwriters: Chuck Wicks, Troy Verges, Blair Daly
Song: "What If You Stay"

I can’t make you turn around
And I can’t take back what I did
I wouldn’t blame you if you hated me

Before you slam that open door
And throw away four good years
Think of everything we used to be
I know you say that you’re over me
But I’m askin you, beggin you not to leave

What if I told you I’ve changed
Would you still walk away
What if I told you I loved you
Would you say that it’s too late
What if you could feel what I feel
When I watch you slowly drift away
What if you’re wrong
What if I’m right
That you could move on
What if you stay

I know right now it’s hard to breathe
Hard to think and hard to see
All the reasons we should work it out
It might be easier to go,
But if you walk out, you’ll never know
How strong we could be at the end of this
I know that sorry is not enough
But I’ll do everything, anything to make it up

What if I told you I’ve changed
Would you still walk away
What if I told you I loved you
Would you say that it’s too late
What if you could feel what I feel
When I watch you slowly drift away
What if you’re wrong
What if I’m right
That you could move on
What if you stay

What if I told you I’ve changed
Would you still walk away
What if I told you I loved you
Would you say that it’s too late
What if you could feel what I feel
When I watch you slowly drift away
What if you’re wrong
What if I’m right
You could move on
What if you stay
Oooooo

I can’t make you turn around
And I can’t take back what I did
I wouldn’t blame you if you hated me

"Summer of Love"

I know I'm not alone when I say that I want that crazy summer love that seems way too good to be true in these songs.  But the crazy thing about songwriting is it doesn't have to necessarily be your truth, just someones.  Well, besides the fact that I am a die-hard Nicholas Sparks fan, I still want the brilliance in this song, just so I could write one like it!  The simplicity and open-end of this song is perfection.  I think this should be a single.  Be sure to listen for Jimi Westbrook's, of Little Big Town, amazing background vocals.

FM Radio:

Singer: Martina McBride
Songwriters: Tommy Lee James, Hillary Lindsey, Martina McBride
Song: "Summer of Love"

The summer wind was blowin' cold,
But our hearts were still on fire.
The harvest moon was takin' over,
And the long days growin' in time

"Kiss me one more time," you said
"Kiss me so I won't forget,
So I can have this feeling even when you're gone"

I remember how time stood still and how you made me feel
Like you were mine forever, lying there together, that summer of love
Tangled up in a big blue sky, like we could almost fly
And every now and then I wonder if you think about us
And that summer of love, that summer of love

Now and then I get that feeling,
And it pulls me back again.
Back to the night when you were leavin',
Prayin' it would never end.

"Kiss me one more time," you said
"Kiss me like you won't forget it,
Didn't wanna let go, just kept holdin' on

I remember how time stood still and how you made me feel
Like you were mine forever, lying there together, that summer of love
Tangled up in a big blue sky, like we could almost fly
And every now and then I wonder if you think about us
And that summer of love, yeah

The summer wind was blowin' cold,
But our hearts were still on fire.

I remember how time stood still and how you made me feel
Like you were mine forever, lying there together, that summer of love
Tangled up in a big blue sky, like we could almost fly
And every now and then I can't stop thinkin' 'bout us
And that summer of love, that summer of love

"Feels So Real"

"I’m as bad as an old washing machine,
Spinnin’ ‘round but I never get clean"

Sometimes, I wonder why I even second guess myself because 99.9% of the time my gut instinct is right.  I have this crazy, insane, chilling connection with songs that I will spend the rest of my life trying to figure out why.  I saw Eden's Edge on the Grand Ole Opry and was blown away.  There's something about these voices that feel so fresh, yet like I've heard them for the past 19 years.  Needless to say, I think there's something incredible here.  Anyways, I just listened to their EP previews and this is the only song that stuck out to me.  The title alone could be taken a million different ways.  Then, I listened to the full song and quite possibly one of my favorite lines/verses I have ever heard.  Well, after I heard 30 seconds of pure magic, I giggled and thought these newbies couldn't possibly have gotten their hands on a piece of Hillary Lindsey written treasure.  So...of course, I took to google, and my answer was right in front of me.       But thats all I really had to do was listen to the rest of the song and I would've heard the brilliance of 'painted shut heart', the glass shatters, "Oh the outside I'm not leather yet."  Like, come on?  Only one person could've possibly written that.

FM Radio:
Singers: Edens Edge
Songwriters: Angelo, Hillary Lindsey, Tia Sillers
Song: Feels So Real

It was two years ago and it was yesterday
Might not make sense but that’s just the way it feels to me
I’m as bad as an old washing machine
Spinnin’ ‘round but I never get clean

Don’t you see

Cause baby you’re gone but you’re like the wind
Out of the calm you come back again
Rattling the windows of my painted shut heart
Feels so real

Inside I still got this breaking in my chest
Don’t feel like flesh, it feels like glass
And glass shatters

Oh outside I’m not leather yet
But these days I’m tougher than I ever thought I’d get

Or ever wanna be, and the heart of the matter

Is baby you’re gone but you’re like the wind
Out of the calm you come back again
Rattling the windows of my painted shut heart
Feels so real, feels so real

Pullin’ down Jupiter, would be much easier
Swimming in the sky that would be a breeze
Than finding a magic cure, help me remember
You’re nothing but a memory

Baby you’re gone but you’re like the wind
Out of the calm you come back again
Rattling the windows of my painted shut heart
Feels so real, feels so real
It was two years ago and it was yesterday
Oh it feels so real, oh
Might not make sense but that’s just the way it feels to me

"Dirtroad Prayer"

Ever hear a song you've never heard before and suddenly your heart already knows the words.
You suddenly know the words because you've lived them, you cried those tears, you lost those dreams, or you've prayed those prayers.  The second I heard these first three lines, the chills started all over me.  Although I've been a fan of Nicolle for years, and I prefer her version (including the second half), this song has found the right voice to bring it to the hearts of millions.  Everyone send one up that this gets released to radio this year!  I can't write a blog long enough to encompass the meanings of this song, but I feel like I coud have one heck of a writing session with these two writers because we are definitely from the same mold.  Songwriting, emotions, prayers, and truth at its best.

FM Radio:
Singer: Lauren Alaina/Nicolle Galyon
Songwriters: Nicolle Galyon, April Geesbreght
Song: "Dirtroad Prayer"

Let the light shine on my mama
She's been worried 'bout me
And I can tell she's tired

Walk my brother in a straight line
I know he's only 16
But he's been playing with fire

Give my grandpa a little peace and quiet
I can feel the years of hard work in his hands

Make my days pass just a little bit slower
I've been runnin' so fast I've forgotten who I am

Chorus:
And so I go where the green grass grows
The weeds are high and the sun hangs low
Look to the sky and I say, hello
Like it's the very first time
It doesn't matter how long it's been
I can talk to God like he's my best friend
Take my heart lay it down again right there
In a dirt road prayer

He's a good guy
Looks dad in the eye
And I wonder if you made him just for me
But before I fall give me patience
Until you show me where to take this

Repeat Chorus

It's good to know I can

Always go where the green grass grows
The weeds are high and the sun hangs low
Look to the sky and I say hello
Ooo. Yeah
It doesn't matter how long it's been
I can talk to God like he's my best friend
Take my heart and lay it down again right there
In a dirt road prayer
Yeah, yeah

In a dirt road prayer
Yeah, yeah

"Tupelo"

Yes, I googled "Tupelo."  I fell so in love with this song that I thought Hillary Lindsey was brilliant enough to make it up.  Well, I was wrong...they also actually are known for their 'honey.'  Brilliance, pure brilliance.  Tupelo, Mississippi is also the birthplace of Elvis, bet you didn't know that!

Currently, it's the middle of winter, but with one listen, it's 98 degrees (no pun intended), top down, sun blaring...summertime in under 4 minutes.  I hope this is a single!  I heard this on Songs That Need A Home's reverbnation a while ago and fell head over heels.  Now I'm happy that I'm not the stalker that knows every word to an unreleased song.

FM Radio:
Singer: Lauren Alaina/Hillary Lindsey
Songwriters: Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson, Steve McEwan
Song: "Tupelo"

Picked a wildflower off the side of the road
You put it in my hair
Two bare feet up on the dashboard
Hands waving through the summer air
Looking at you, looking at me
With the wind strapped to our backs
Flying as high as a bird in the sky
Don't get much better than that
And we sang all the way down to Tupelo
Love struck right on the money
Heartbeats a beating to the radio
Kisses sweet as the honey
Down in Tupelo
All the way down to Tupelo
Counting the white lines a mile by mile
Worries slipping away
Took a back road for a little slow down
Off of the interstate
We followed the river as far as it goes
Smiling in the July sun
Hearing you say, you were falling in love
I said, you ain't the only one
And we sang all the way down to Tupelo
Love struck right on the money
Heartbeats a beating to the radio
Kisses sweet as the honey
Down in Tupelo
All the way down
La la la la la la
Wind strapped to our backs
La la la la la la
Don't get much better than that
And we sang all the way down to Tupelo
Love struck right on the money
Heartbeats a beating to the radio
Kisses sweet, kisses sweet
And we sang all the way down to Tupelo
Love struck right on the money
Heartbeats a beating to the radio
Kisses sweet as the honey
Down in Tupelo
All the way down to Tupelo
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
All the way down to Tupelo, yeah
All the way down to Tupelo
All the way down to Tupelo
