"Why Now Why"

Lately, I have been searching for some inspiration.  Everywhere I've looked, I've only gotten more doubtful...Doubtful that this isn't going to turn out, doubtful that I don't have what it takes, and in the meantime I haven't accomplished anything except not writing and not finding that out.  I finally came to my senses and figured out that the only one who can change it is me.  So, I searched harder and harder but sometimes things just fall into place.  As with everything I have done, it all started with a simple song and the internet.

After randomly checking Twitter, I saw a tweet by Mallary Hope that mentioned this artist I've never heard of, Kelleigh Bannen.  Well, having to see who this is for myself, I finally found what I've been looking for.  It led me to Kelleigh Bannen's Soundcloud with this like unbelievably haunting song:
Why Now Why I knew from the first chord, this was it.  For some reason, since there is no way to buy her music, I had that 59 second sample of a song on repeat for well over 10 minutes...crazy, right?  There's something about her voice that I cannot put my finger on and that's what gets me and it's beyond truth and vulnerability.  It's that only hidden songwriter's demos feel that has hesitation + vulnerability + truth + pain + realness that is not marketed because it is too real.  This little sample of a song had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next word and part of the story to unfold.  Then, I got myself together and googled until I found the whole song.  I still have no idea who wrote this song.  You must listen to the emotion in this song.  Country music needs Kelleigh Bannen.

"Every Time"

Nothing more I love than a song like this.  Speaking of disappearing country stars, where did Jessica Andrews disappear to?  I can envision Carrie Underwood & Jessica Andrews fighting over Hillary Lindsey songs and then getting the #1 & #2 position on the charts.  Yeah, I'm that obsessed but sorry, no one on this Earth writes songs like this.

At this stage, I feel like some people really try to get into the music industry for all of the wrong reasons.  Well, I want to get into it to make people feel the way I do about songs.  To change people's lives the way mine has been.  Everything about this song inspires me, from this amazing story that goes back and forth between creating a memory, reliving it, and the reality in between.  Every line of this song continues this story, not one line is in here without a purpose.  How come more people don't know about this song?!

Leave me comments, let me know what you think!

Song: "Every Time"

I laid the blanket there on the shorelineAnd saw the water shine with the moonWhat kind of fool would fail to noticeThe best thing shining was you
Oh, I laughed kinda nervous, I felt you move closerAnd felt the world unwindOnce was a stranger, not quite a loverBut steadily crossing the line
Carry me far away, don't hold backI won't break, leave the ghosts behindAll I know, wrong or right just the thought of this nightWill get me every time, every time
Well, the voice in my head said, "What are you doing?"I thought not listening to youYou see I, I'm taking a chanceI'm thinking about flying over the blue
And it's crazy to be this out of practiceAnd have it all come so naturallyDon't you love knocking logic right off its axisAnd watch it float far out to sea
Carry me far away, don't hold backI won't break, leave the ghosts behindAll I know, wrong or right just the thought of this nightWill get me every time, every timeEvery time, every time, every time
So now here I am reading my fortuneIn the winding lines of your handOh, and I see a lost unwanted orphanHead right for the promised landCarry me far away, I won't, I won't break
Oh, carry me far away, don't hold backI won't break, leave the ghosts behindAll I know, wrong or right just the thought of this nightWill get me every time, will get me every time, every time

"Another Try"

Ahh!  I've forgotten how writing feels!  For some reason, I feel like tonight is the beginning of summer, weird!  This summer has flown right by and I barely blogged...so I'm going to try again.  I kind of ran out of words to say about songs.  This craft sometimes puts me in a place I have no words for...shocker, right?  Well, totally forgot about this Chris Stapleton & Jeremy Spillman written gem.  I wonder who sang this demo, ahh brilliance.  And can we talk about the impecable-as-always Trisha Yearwood vocals?!  That's someone who could really, really sing.
Where did all our major 90s country women go?!  I want Trisha back!  Go fall in love with this song already...

Song: "Another Try"

All the things I've felt and never shared
All the times that she was lonely with me there
Tears I wouldn't let fall from my eyes
And how I let her go without a fight

The reasons I'm alone, I know by heart
But I don't wanna spend forever in the dark
I swear next time I'll hang on for dear life
If love ever gives me another try

There's no changing things that we regret
The best that we can hope for is one more chance
If the hands of time could just move in reverse
I wouldn't make the same mistake again with her

The reasons I'm alone, I know by heart
But I don't wanna spend forever in the dark
I swear next time I'll hang on for dear life
If love ever gives me another try

Oh, the reasons I'm alone I know by heart
But I don't wanna spend forever in the dark
I swear next time I'll hang on for dear life
If love ever gives me another try

Oh, if love ever gives me another try
