"Wings"

I cannot figure out why on Earth Sarah Buxton is not ruling the charts.  I give up.  She is unlike everyone out there, so raw, honest and vulnerable even with tempo!  What more can anyone want?  I couldn't wait for her album to come out and the second it did, I had this song on repeat.  There's nothing overdone with this song...and that's why I love it.  Every line is the truth, and if it is not yours, it's someones.

Song: "Wings"

Love can be crazy
Magical things it can do
The places that it takes you to
I never thought that it was true

Till you saw me standing
Facing the walls I can't climb
You lifted me up just in time
It's so perfect and divine

You give me wings
So I can fly, at least that's
how it seems
Like angels do, I'm dancing in a dream
There's no fear or doubt
Up here in the clouds
'Cause you give me wings

I'm only human
And I do the best I can do
Sometimes I fight and I lose

When I can't pull myself through,
you do

You give me wings
So I can fly, at least that's
how it seems
Like angels do, I'm dancing in a dream
There's no fear or doubt
Up here in the clouds
'Cause you give me wings

You take me high
Higher than the struggles in this life
And where I used to stumble
Now I rise above it all
Like I could never fall
'Cause you give me wings

I am not an angel
But baby, understand
When I get around you
I feel like I am
Ain't runnin' any longer
Your love makes me stronger
Nothing is impossible
Anymore, anymore

You give me wings
So I can fly, at least that's
how it seems
Like angels do, I'm dancing in a dream
There's no fear or doubt
Up here in the clouds
'Cause you give me wings

You take me high
Higher than the struggles in this life
And where I used to stumble
Now I rise above it all
Like I could never fall
'Cause you give me wings

You give me wings
You give me wings

"The Locket"

Between Memorial Day and my everlasting love of brilliantly written love songs, this song is the answer.
My grandparents have almost the same love story, and this song just breaks my heart.  My grandfather would send letters and poems to my grandmother (I wonder where I got it from?!) during the war and one of my dreams was to literally take those poems and make them into a song.  Well, after hearing this song, every time I try to do that, every word I write comes out to this song's beautiful melody.  Between the stories being so parallel and the sheer brilliance of this song, I think this song has said all there is to say.
From a songwriter point of a view, sometimes it is so hard to find the right way to find that niche in a story song, almost like that spark that makes it unique.  Well, the way Mallary turned this song around gave me chills so much that I had to stop driving when I heard this.  I got those chills that are so sharp that they almost hurt.  This song hit my heart.

On behalf of SongBird & myself, Lauren Alaina - PLEASE release this as a single so Mallary Hope can wear a gorgeous little BMI medallion around her neck, this song deserves every award out there.  Brilliant.

Song: "The Locket"
Back in '41. you met a brown-eyed boy
Who called you pretty
He'd walk every day, couple miles out of his way
To hold your hand and keep you company
Your mama said, don't call it love at 14
But sittin' on that front porch swing

He gave you his picture in a locket
That you wore around your neck
Left it right beside your heart
So you would not forget
The way it felt when he held your hand
And you swore that you would never take it off
And the butterflies you felt said it all
You were falling for the boy inside your locket

Back in '43, the brown-eyed boy went overseas
And had to leave town for a little while
He swore he'd marry you
As soon as the war was through
You would be his wife
Standing in the pouring rain
You cried as you watched him ride away

But everyday
You had his picture in a locket
That you wore around your neck
Left it right beside your heart so you would not forget

The way his kiss tasted on your lips
And everyday felt like a lifetime with him gone
And you prayed that God would bring him safely home
'Cause you made a promise
To the boy inside your locket

Oh, 60 years you two had together
But he's been gone for a couple now
And it breaks my heart to see you struggle to remember
But I've been writing all your memories down
And I stopped by today
To read a couple pages
Grandma, you sure look pretty
And you smiled that smile
The one I haven't seen in quite a while
And you said to me, 1 want you to keep

His picture in a locket that I wore around my neck
The one I left beside my heart so I would not forget
The greatest love and the greatest man I've ever known
But it's gettin' time for me to head on home
She said, that brown-eyed boy is waiting
And I don't want to keep him long
Heaven is calling
And she said, my heart is longing
For the boy inside your locket

"Blank Sheet Of Paper"

I sat down tonight with the immense task of catching up on a gazillion blogs, and I had no idea where to start.  I was staring at this oh so familiar blank computer screen and I had this epiphany that I am, literally, going to be staring at a blank sheet of paper for the rest of my life.

Standing where I am, is the hardest place I have yet stand.  I am on the cusp of making some major life changing decisions, and am at the part of my life where most dreamers take a detour and find another dream.  Well, I don't give up that easy.  My Italian hard-head will ride this songwriting thing through until the end.  So, I just had to pick this song.  It's been tucked in my iPod for years and I think it's one of Tim McGraw's most vulnerable vocals but it only takes an incredible song to do that.  The craft behind this song is incredible.

Song: "Blank Sheet of Paper"

I'm just a blank sheet of paper
This fool's about to write you a letter
To tell you that he's sorry
For the way he did you wrong
To ask for your forgiveness
For leavin you alone

He's been lookin down at me
Seems like forever
He takes the top on and off his pen
It's like he can't decide just
What he wants to say
If he'd just tell the truth
I'd be on my way

But he just stares at me
I just stare at him
He don't know where to start
To say he doesn't want it to end
And now its one hour later
And I'm still a blank sheet of paper

Sunlight is shinin' through the curtains
He's almost asleep pen in hand
There's a tear in his eye
That refuses to fall
If it would land on me
That would say it all

But he just stares at me
I just stare at him
He don't know where to start
To say he doesn't want it to end
Now it's four hours later
And I'm still a blank sheet of paper

And he just stares at me
I just stare at him
He don't know where to start
To say he wants it back again
Now one broken heart later
I'm still a blank sheet of paper
